It was the fall of 2009.

A group of about 80 college students and community families were sent out from Cornerstone Church of Ames to plant a next-generation church in Iowa City. Emboldened by the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and a host of other promises (Isaiah 25:1), students transferred, people quit jobs, families sold homes, children switched schools, and took the giant leap of faith 140 miles away to Iowa City.

The nameless church was unofficially launched in the summer of 2010, growing out of a basement to a city park. On September 12, 2010, Veritas Church became official, meeting in a hotel, while The Salt Company started around the same time with college students packing out a bar near campus. Connection groups were started a couple months later in dorm rooms all over the Iowa campus and homes in the Iowa City area. Veritas became autonomous from Cornerstone in the Spring of 2011 with the commissioning of a Veritas elder team.

Because Veritas and Salt Company have outgrown each meeting space, we have had to be flexible, mobile, and focused on our mission of making disciples and planting churches. On March 31, 2013 (Easter Sunday), 80 people from Veritas once again stepped out in faith to start a service in Cedar Rapids.

The overarching story of Veritas is God changing lives through the power of His good news about Jesus. Soli Deo Gloria.
